Dive Into February with the Traverse City Polar Plunge

This winter started off frigid and has since eased off for more temperate weather. Don't look now, but there's a deep freeze on the way and a rather unusual way to celebrate it.

Back for another year, the Traverse City Polar Plunge dives into February for a very deserving cause. Located at North Peak and Kilkenney's in Downtown Traverse City, you'll have the chace to raise money for the Special Olympics by taking a dip in a pool right on Front Street!

The event is just one of 28 similar plunges across Michigan in 2018. The organization raises money to put on Special Olympic events around the state each year, supporting over 23,000 athletes to test their mettle and acheive their dream of competiting. So far, the event has raised over $12,000 with some time left to bring in even more before February 3.

Get started with the Parade of Costumes at 10:30, with on-site registration opening at 9:30. There are tons of prizes for costumes, raising the most money, and simply being a part of this great cause! You won't want to miss the first folks to dive in at 11am, with the post-Splash Bash kicking off after everyone is well soaked.

This the type of event we love seeing in our communities! The work of these organizations to do good, and the level of support these events receive, really highlights what a wonderful place Northern Michigan is, and why we love calling it home.
