Kalkaska A Hub Of Development

We're very excited to hear of more commercial development coming to Kalkaska!

EXIT Northern Shores has offices in two small towns in Northern Michigan. One, located in downtown Kalkaska, gives us a great opportunity to stay in touch with the community businesses and families to hear what they want to see and where they want Kalkaska to go in the future. More local opportunities has always been a big goal, and the renewed efforts of developers have brought some great news.

As reported in the Ticker today, there's a lot happening in the village. After WalMart opted not to pursue a new location, the parcel they're leaving empty has been refocused as an industrial park, and it's doubled in size in the process! Plans are in the works to invite new businesses to set-up shop, tapping into the skilled labor available in the area.

There's also plans for an update on the historic Hotel Sieting, with downstate developers looking to bring a taproom to the village and add another great dining destination to its downtown.

Cash Cook, the Kalkaska Downtown Development director, hits the nail on the head. Kalkaska is perfectly situated; “It’s at a crossroads. From Kalkaska you can get to virtually everywhere in 45 minutes or less – Cadillac, Gaylord, Grayling, Petoskey, Traverse City," Cook says.

Thanks to The Ticker for highlighting the progress and development we're seeing right here at our offices, and we can't wait to see our village transition to a more self-sustained, self-supported place to live, work and play!
