Read All A-Trout It! Kalkaska's Annual Trout Festival Is April 26-30!

One of our very favorite small town outings is the Kalkaska National Trout Festival, and it's coming up quickly on the busy calendar of great Northern Michigan things-to-do! 

The fairs, festivals, and carnivals of yesteryear live on in Northern Michigan. The simple joys and pleasures of a small town event create memories to last a lifetime, and there's none quite as quaint and classic as the Trout Festival. It's celebrating its 81st edition in 2017, and as it closes in on a century of great events, there's more to love than ever. 

Festivities begin on April 26, with four days of family fun in the village. The daily activities are like a mini-Olympics of Up North mainstays; euchre, bingo, bowling, all take center stage Wednesday through Friday. Things amp up with Bubble Soccer, a motorcycle enduro race, and a lumberjack competition over the weekend. 

It wouldn't be a fair without great food, with breakfast, lunch and dinner accounted for at various restaurants over the course of the four days. Saturday's Pig Roast might be the main event, although the kids will be looking forward to that evening's fireworks. 

Sunday might be the last day, but there's still plenty to do! Go fishing with the experts, and see who wins the Trout Competition, all before heading into Kalkaska for a pizza eating contest, a classic car show, a final few rides at the carnival, a reptile and animal show, plus the last day of the famous flea market! Whew, that's a busy day! 

This is the stuff we love about small towns in Northern Michigan. Things like this bring a community together like almost nothing else, and in the course of four days, you'll meet almost everyone in town. Local business and organizations come together to celebrate that sense of togetherness, and of course the natural resources and charms that make life in the North Woods so incredible.
